My Big Idea is about my personal and imaginative relationships with my friends. The idea changed from all over, at first i wanted to do something about "home" then it changed to wanting to do something involving dubstep, then i settled on relationships.
Julian Smith is a youtube director who makes short funny films not really a "Big Idea" though. I heard about them from friends who got me hooked on him. He influenced me by no big idea style. I dont like having an idea hold me down from expanding my idea range.
I think the process of making art is what determines how the final product will be. So if you don't create the art in the right way its just not going to look good or professional.
What i learned the most is that videos are a long process that requires time and commitment. Thats why i believe that if you are going to try and make a project around a big idea then you should have something you are passionate about so you dont lose focus or desire.
I didnt have a problems really except for the crappy special effects. I plan on trying to challenge myself by using more special effects when necessary.
i think i should be assigned a B because i did finish 2 videos within the deadline

  1. Carl,

We've had this conversation a few times, but it's worth mentioning again. Focusing your work around a big idea should not limit you in any way. You've written, "I dont like having an idea hold me down from expanding my idea range" which to me, means that you enjoy ideas. You seem to think that labeling your ideas under one big wide umbrella limits them. I feel the opposite way. Heck, even Julian Smith has a big idea. All of his work is about conflict. Unnecessary conflicts. Conflicts that escalate to absurd violence. Does that stop him from making amazingly funny videos? No. It helps him because it's a solid foundation from which to start.

Like I've said all along, I don't want or expect you to make something totally intellectual and serious if you don't want to. That doesn't mean that comedy should be meaningless though.

You very accurately and easily pinpointed the big idea behind your two videos: relationships. Specifically, relationships that have barriers. See how easy it was to say "Carl's videos meant something"? It didn't even hurt, did it?

    :)
